«Memento Mori», or a Reminder of Mortality

«Memento Mori», or a Reminder of Mortality

A plastic bag is our humble companion, familiar and unnoticed in the daily hustle. It is soft to the touch, pliable, and emits a barely perceptible, cozy rustle. In its integrity, it seems almost eternal, embodying the convenience and tranquility of everyday life.

But one need only bring a flame to it, and the illusion of permanence shatters. Under the heat of the fire, the plastic begins to deform agonizingly, losing its original shape. What was smooth and whole turns before our eyes into a shriveled, broken substance — a charred vestige of its former utility.

This sight serves as an involuntary reminder of the vulnerability of matter and the finitude of any path. In the twisted remains of the bag, a silent lesson is read: everything in our world has its term. The flame of time changes us in the same way, transforming the energy of life into the memory of it. Such is the simple and harsh truth of life and death, which we often ignore until we see how easily the familiar is destroyed.
